Jamiko Rose

Jamiko Rose is originally from Birmingham, Alabama and earned dual degrees in International Government and Sociology from the University of Notre Dame. Prior to moving to Chicago, Jamiko spent two years working in Paraguay with the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, strengthening her interests in liberation theology. She organized and worked on human rights issues affecting agrarian workers, as well as women involved in the sex trade. Her international experience also extends to work in El Salvador, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Israel and Palestine.

She first became involved with ONE as a community resident and later joined the staff as the director of the organizations community school. She became an organizer with the organization 6 months later in January 2004, and has since worked on immigrant rights and education issues, initiated the youth issues leadership and organizing team. She has also served as the Associate Director, and is currently the Interim Executive Director. Jamiko finds that the most gratifying aspect of her work is working with leaders to awaken their social and political consciousness, untapped potential and personal sense of power.
