- An Institute for Justice in Journalism Fellowship for reporter Jeff Kelly Lowenstein, who was selected along with nine other journalists nationwide as doing outstanding work in this field. The program, sponsored by the University of Southern California institute, held seminars at Harvard University and the Poynter Institute for Media Studies. His project will focus on the economic impact of becoming disabled on the job among immigrant populations.
- A Jennings Fellowship for Senior Editor Alden K. Loury, in the inaugural year of the Peter Jennings Project for Journalists and the Constitution. The program, aimed at fostering a deeper understanding of these issues, is funded by the Annenberg Foundation and includes veteran Chicago reporter Carol Marin.
- The Chicago Reporter was awarded a Peter Lisagor Award for Exemplary Journalism. Sponsored by the Chicago Headline Club, reporter Kimbriell Kelly and intern Angelica Herrera earned top honors for business reporting among specialty and trade magazines for our work on immigration.
