On June 21, 2007 emerging and established social justice advocates from around the region joined Community Renewal and several distinguished guests for our first ever Future Summit. Focusing on the roles young leader can, do and must play in moving the region forward socially and economically, the discussions touched on the need for bridge building and developing individual and organizational capacity.
Later that evening, Community Renewal proudly honored 35 young, largely unknown leaders, all of whom are using varied and creative approaches to achieve a just and equitable society for all. Among the 35 honorees is the founder of a website that assists ex-felons with the expungement process, an archeologist who brings the science learning experiences of the wealthy to children in the inner city and an organizer who empowers Latino day laborers, helping them to fight for fair wages and benefits.
