Dr. Nicol Turner-Lee is

is Vice President and the first Director of the Media and Technology Institute for the Joint Center of Political and Economic Studies.  The Joint Center is one of the nation's leading research and public policy institutions whose work focuses primarily on issues of particular concern to African Americans and other people of color.  Prior to joining the Joint Center, Dr. Turner-Lee served as Senior Vice President of External Affairs for One Economy Corporation, an international non-profit organization that works to connect underserved communities to technology.  Dr. Turner-Lee is the founder of the Neighborhood Technology Resource Center, a community based organization that provided free public computer access to Chicago residents.  She is a recognized speaker and has published several articles on the transformative power of technology for communities. Most recently, she was honored as one of the top ten national Broadband Promoters by Broadband Properties Magazine.  She graduated with honors from Colgate University in Hamilton, NY, and received her doctorate in sociology from Northwestern University.  Dr. Turner-Lee also has a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from the University of Illinois Chicago
