The Chicago Reporter Awarded a $75,000 Challenge Grant

Jan 20 4:31 PM
We are very pleased to announce that The Chicago Reporter has been awarded a $75,000 challenge grant through the Challenge Fund for Journalism VI. The Challenge Fund for Journalism is a program of the Ford Foundation, the McCormick Foundation, and Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation. The initiative is designed to help journalism organizations improve their long-term financial health and sustainability by expanding and diversifying their earned and contributed income sources. Please DONATE today!

Through this initiative, the Reporter will explore a range of new ventures to generate contributed and earned revenue from new sources. Those sources could include individual, corporate and foundation donors interested in the Reporter’s focus on race and poverty or its six beat coverage areas (criminal justice, immigration, government & politics, business & labor, health and housing). In addition, the Reporter will explore ways to generate income through new or expanded Web and print editorial products like briefing sheets, customized data analyses and reader-driven investigations.

From January 2010 through November 2011, The Chicago Reporter will be working to match this $75,000 challenge through qualifying earned and contributed income.

If you have never given to The Chicago Reporter before, now is the time! New donations will be doubled by the Challenge Fund for Journalism until November 2011.

If you are a current supporter, please help us meet our challenge goal! Any increase over previous donations will qualify toward meeting the challenge!

In today’s changing media landscape, your generous contribution will help The Chicago Reporter expand and diversify its revenue sources and continue to be our region’s leader in high-quality, impactful journalism.
