2007
Played a pivotal role in the passage of the Good Conduct Credit, SB1391, which provides a 90-day early release from parole for those individuals who get their GED. Played a pivotal role in the passage of the Drug School Act, which diverts low-level, non-violent drug offenders from prison to treatment and education programs
Organized Faith Leaders for Fiscal Integrity, an interfaith coalition of Illinois faith leaders calling for fair and sustainable fiscal reforms in Illinois.Launched the Children of the Incarcerated (COI) campaign to address the needs of children who have a parent in prison.Over 500 seniors participated in the inaugural Senior Power Leadership Awards to honor four individuals for their leadership around seniors issues.
Added more than 20 new member congregations to the Civic Action Network.
2006
Played a pivotal role in the passage of House Resolution 1161 that allowed for a series of public hearings on reforming the Illinois criminal justice system
Promoted policy-reform efforts to divert low-level drug offenders from potential prison sentences to treatment
Supported efforts to reform Medicare part D and halt the privatization of Social Security

Helped pass SB 92, that successfully created a division between the criminal and juvenile justice systems by creating the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice
Drew attention to the plight of displaced Chicago Housing Authority residents unable to find affordable housing
2004
Served as a driving force in the passage of SB 3007, the nation’s first sealing of felony records bill
Organized the only community-based U.S. Senatorial Forum, attended by 1,100 people, where both Barack Obama and Alan Keyes participated
2003
Played a pivotal role in the passage of the Illinois Prescription Discount Drug Bill
Successfully defended a family in a police brutality case, drawing attention to the need for broad system reforms
2002
Played a crucial role in the creation and passage of HB4129, which halted the automatic transfer of juvenile offenders to adult court without a hearing into their circumstances
Won the appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate torture at Chicago Area 2 and 3 Police Headquarters under Police Lt. Jon Burge
Protected the Cabrini Green Rowhouses from demolition and won support for their rehabilitation
