Alex Wiesendanger works as an organizer for the Community Renewal Society’s Civic Action staff. Prior to joining CRS, he worked as the Associate Director for the Tennessee Coalition to Abolish State Killing. As the lead organizer and legislative director for TCASK, Alex led a grassroots campaign which succeeded in passing the first anti-death penalty legislation in modern Tennessee history in 2007.
Originally from New York City, Alex’s previous experience includes work with the Jesuit Volunteer Core, the Illinois Hunger Coalition, the AFL-CIO, the Dennis Kucinich for President Campaign (2004), the School of the America’s Watch, and work as the legislative assistant for New York State Assemblyman Michael Benjamin. He graduated from Binghamton University with degrees in music and political science and is currently working on a Masters of Social Justice at Loyola University.
