Write an Op-Ed
An op-ed raises awareness of an issue, educates policy makers and positions our organization to be a resource for the media and the public.
Make sure that you lead with the human face of the issue. Your first paragraph must draw the reader in. Use examples and statistics to underscore your broader message.
Be concise. After three paragraphs your op-ed will probably be cut from the bottom up. Each paragraph should stand alone.
Avoid jargon and a laundry list of statistics. Keep your statements short and punchy and use verified statistics to supplement them.
Engage your readers through creativity. Cut the issue in a way that is new and agitational.
Include your name and contact information (address, phone, e-mail), so they can confirm you authored the op-ed. Also include a headline and a one sentence bio about yourself.
Proof the op-ed and have someone else read it to ensure it’s grammatically correct and clear.
