Reverend Elaine Bellis joined the Community Renewal Society in 2001 where she directs the Senior Action Network. Prior to joining Community Renewal Society, she was employed by Xerox Corporation for twenty years where she held a number of supervisory and management jobs during her tenure. She received several awards for outstanding leadership, customer service and productivity. Prior to her service with Xerox she worked in the political arena in Chicago and Gary, Indiana.
Reverend Bellis was installed as the first African-American female Archdeacon in the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago and is one of two in the United States. In this capacity she travels extensively throughout the Diocese visiting all parishes where deacons serve. She is active with the HIV/AIDS Taskforce of the Diocese, is active with several councils of the Church, and also serves as Secretary to the Diocesan Convention. She presently heads the Youth Program at her parish for youth 11-18 years of age and has her own home-based business.
