E-mail: AldenL@chicagoreporter.com
Alden Loury joined the Reporter staff in 1999 after spending three years covering city government and social services at the Champaign-Urbana News Gazette. At the Reporter, Alden was honored for his stories on the growing numbers of black men in prison, racial disparities in drug sentencing, and the impact of race in jury selection and jury verdicts. Promoted to Senior Editor in 2002, Alden is responsible for planning the editorial content of the Reporter and managing all major investigative projects for the magazine. He has led projects, among others, on lottery ticket sales in Chicago's black communities, fatal police shootings, billions in property sales near demolished public housing, and the struggle for men and women leaving prison to find employment. A Chicago native, Alden earned his bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
