Community Renewal Society (CRS) is a faith-based organization that works with people and communities to address racism and poverty. CRS transforms society towards greater justice and compassion through our growing network of diverse congregations that fight for racial and economic justice through powerful, direct action campaigns. Community Renwal Society, part of the Responsible Budget Coalition (RBC), participated in events surrounding Governor Rauner’s State of the State Address (four press conferences, a rally, and a public demonstration outside the chambers during the Governor’s address) which generated a tremendous amount of positive press coverage. We have identified 45 news stories generated by the RBC in a two-day period. 

Community Renewal Society (CRS), among Chicago’s oldest faith-based social justice organizations, announces that Rev. Eddie Knox, Jr. has been elected President of the Board and Delia Ramirez has joined the organization as its Deputy Director.

This is a contract position through June 30, 2016 that organizes current Community Renewal Society member congregations on the West side of Chicago, to create social change on issues of race and poverty.

Faith leaders rallied at City Hall on December 1st demanding real systemic reform to police oversight by enacting the FAIR COPS (Freedom through Accountability, Investigation, and Reform for Community Oversight of Policing Services) Ordinance, which would create an independent civilian Police Auditor’s Office.
