Pat O'Connell is a 30-year veteran in the Chicago non-profit community and has been named as Transitional Managing Director at the Community Renewal Society in preparation of the June 2012 retirement of the organization’s long-time leader, Dr. Calvin S. Morris, PhD. The CRS Board of Directors recruited Pat to assist with CRS’s transition to a new Executive Director.

After receiving thousands of postcards and hundreds of phone calls from Community Renewal Society member congregations, Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn committed to attending the second annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Faith in Action Assembly on January 16, 2012.
The Chicago Reporter will join forces with WMAQ, a NBC affiliate, to create hard-hitting investigative stories on social and economic issues. The Reporter will begin working immediately with the local NBC 5 Investigative Unit to produce exclusive investigations and data analysis. The partnership is part of a larger announcement for the NBC Owned Television Stations.
Executive Director Dr. Calvin S. Morris will transition to retirement,originally announced in March 2011, with a six month sabbatical. Dr. Morris says that he will remain committed to CRS, working on transitional relationships and preparations for the upcoming 130th celebration luncheon in May 2012. As part of the leadership changes, some positions are being merged and shifted.

Publisher Alden Loury is leaving The Chicago Reporter to take a senior investigator position with the Better Government Association. Loury says that his heart will remain with the publication where he spent 12 years as a reporter, editor and publisher. He vows to be a lifelong supporter and to seek collaborative projects with the Reporter in his new role. Kimbriell Kelly will take on the role of Interim Publisher, in addition to her duties as Editor. Managing Editor Rui Kaneya will also assume additional editorial duties to keep the Reporter’s many projects on track.
