The Chicago Reporter new hires

The Reporter is proud to announce the hiring of Maria Inés Zamudio to cover health, immigration and labor. She has been working at daily newspapers in California since she graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2007 with a B.A. in journalism and a minor in Latin American Studies. She is a reporter and blogger with experience in audio/video editing and computer-assisted reporting. She is also a 2007 Chips Quinn Scholar, a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and a founding member of that organization’s student chapter at the University of Illinois.

The Reporter has added Steven Ross Johnson to its team of bloggers. Steven is a 2007 graduate from Northwestern University’s master’s program in journalism. He has experience in blogging and video production and has worked at publications including Streetwise, the Associated Press, and the Elgin Courier-News, where he won several awards for his investigative work. In his first assignment, Steven penned a three-part series examining the legacy of former Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley on the city’s South and West sides. The series was published on the Reporter’s blog, “Chicago Muckrakers,” on ChicagoNow.
