Maria Zamudio Awarded Institute for Justice & Journalism Fellowship

Congratulations to The Chicago Reporter Maria Zamudio who has been awarded a 2012 Institute for Justice & Journalism fellowship: “Immigration in the Heartland.”

Maria is one of 14 journalists who have been selected to take part in the fellowship program that challenges reporters to go beyond familiar sound bites and cover the complexities of immigration with depth and context. In April, she will participate in a conference that will feature discussions with experts, field reporting and professional workshops at Gaylord College in Norman and in Oklahoma City.

Maria will work on her fellowship story while at the Reporter and in April will attend a weeklong workshop in Norman, Oklahoma. Maria has been an asset to the Reporter since joining the team not quite a year ago and has done some amazing work around immigration and labor rights.

Check out Maria’s work:

We look forward to seeing even more great work from her. Congratulations!
