Low participation in Chicago’s property tax rebate program has resulted in a surplus of $14 million for the city. We are proposing that this money be spent on a comprehensive violence prevention and youth development strategy to relieve the crisis of violence in our communities. Our three-pronged proposal uses funds to:
- Provide vulnerable youths with trauma-informed case management and counseling programs for at-risk youths.
- Extend One Summer Chicago Summer Youth Employment Program to fund year-round jobs.
- Expand Mayor’s Mentoring Initiative to provide positive social support to at-risk youths.
Tell your alderman to vote to invest every dollar of the property tax rebate program’s surplus on violence prevention initiatives.
