Environmental Success

During
the last few weeks you might have noticed some extra emails in your
inbox, asking you to make phone calls and take action on a number of
important issues. Well, we have exciting news to report on the federal
environmental legislation! On June 26th, HR 2454—the
American Clean Energy and Security Act (ACES)
—passed out of
the House of Representatives with a vote of 219 to 212. Such a close
margin demonstrates that the letters of support and the phone calls
from constituents did make a difference!

Now is
the time to follow up. If your representative voted in favor of the
bill, please call or write and thank them for making a true difference.
If your representative voted against the bill, call or write and let
them know how disappointed you are that they didn’t support this important
legislation. See the voting
record
and contact information for your representative.

The ACES bill still
has a long road ahead. It must pass the US Senate and then probably
go back through the House for a concurrence vote. We will keep you up-to-date
on the bill’s progress so that you can continue to advocate. Thank you
again for all your work. This is a great step forward and, we hope,
just the beginning!
