Let your Justice Roll Down

“Prayer is a strong wall and fortress of the church; it is a godly Christian weapon.”
-Martin Luther

On Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at 6 am about 25 people from UVC joined 500 others from the Community Renewal Society by putting our Faith in Action. We headed to Springfield to ask our law makers to pass some commonsense legislation related to gun trafficking and to remove barriers to work for the formerly incarcerated. We had many great conversations but at the end of the day the job is not done. Join me in prayer as we continue this work.

Creator of life, hear us on this day as we labor to make your world more peaceful and just. We pray for those whose lives have been cut short by gun violence and for those who are waiting for new life following incarceration. We pray for our senators and representatives as they negotiate and dialogue. We pray that your Holy Spirit would stir in their hearts a vision for your will to be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Let your justice roll down.

May we see the day when war and bloodshed cease on our neighborhood streets. May we see the day when systems of accountability protect the sanctity of human life. May we see the day when we are all delivered from our addictions to guns and violence.

Let your justice roll down.

May we see the day when the abundant grace you offer is mirrored by us in the world. May we see the day when we are able to break down the barriers in our society that don’t allow for second chances; for new life. May we see the day when each person is afforded the dignity of a job despite the shadows of their past.

Let your justice roll down.

God, today is the day! May your love magnify our voices for the sake of this broken, hostile, and suspicious world. We know that we can’t do this without you, but we also know that as your disciples we are responsible for helping to bring about your peaceable kingdom. God we pray that in communion with you, we might help to let justice roll down.
Amen.

The arc of God’s reign bends toward justice. I am thankful to be a part of a church that glimpses the possibilities this work.

Peace,

Brittany
