Professional Title:
South Side Congregational Organizer
Organization:
Community Renewal Society

Rishona came to CRS in 2017 and is an alumna of DePaul University, obtaining a B.S. in Commerce and a M.S. in Public Service Management.  During her time at DePaul, Rishona fully embraced the Vincentian mission to make a difference, focus on social justice, and serve others by taking meaningful action.  She was active in leadership roles with multiple campus groups, participated in the annual Vincentian Service Day events, and served as an International Summer Missions Team Leader for five years.

After commencement, Rishona served a 10-month apprenticeship with Public Allies that deepened her passion for assisting communities in need and wanting to effect community level change.  In 2006, Rishona accepted a full-time position with the Garfield Park Conservatory Alliance as the New Communities Program Project Manager.  In this work, she was able to develop and implement community programs in the areas of youth, health, art, and education; organized community groups, residents, and local businesses to have a voice and stand up for or against planned activities in the area; and provided start-up seed grant opportunities for local businesses and community groups.

Rishona’s tenure with the Garfield Park Conservatory Alliance concluded in 2012. She went on to work with Maple Park United Methodist Church and served as the Administrative Assistant and Urban Strategy Specialist for the Northern Illinois Conference.  This opportunity provided her with the chance to work with faith-based organizations that diligently serve our community and “contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.”  Rishona is committed to empowering and supporting the good work and fighting for social justice reform.
