The People's State of the State Address in Springfield

January 27, 2016 - 6:00am

We need you at the People’s State of the State Address!

Illinois has now been operating without a budget for over six months and our communities are suffering due to devastating cuts.

Next Wednesday, January 27, hundreds of people from across the state of Illinois will gather in Springfield to tell the Governor and legislators they must choose revenue and end this unnecessary stalemate. We will present “The People’s State of the State” before the Governor speaks and call for the immediate passage of a responsible budget.

Join us next Wednesday as we call for an end to this budget crisis and demand a budget that prioritizes people over politics.

The Governor and our elected officials should be ashamed of the state of our state! Thousands of low income students have withdrawn from colleges and universities because they are not receiving the state MAP Grants they were promised to pay tuition; social service providers assisting domestic violence survivors are being forced to deny people services; and over 5,000 people who receive emergency and transitional housing have had their services either severely cut or eliminated in the middle of this cold winter.

The State of Illinois and our elected officials have turned their backs on our most vulnerable citizens. The actions of the Governor and the inaction of the legislature have hurt our communities.  Now is the time to tell them that they must prioritize people over politics.

We need you to join us for the People’s State of the State, when we will demand an end to this devastating crisis by raising the revenue we need to fund a truly responsible budget.
