Democracy in Chains, The Deep History of the Radical Right’s Stealth Plan for America. Nancy’s book has been called, “A worthy companion to Jane Mayer’s Dark Money. MacLean’s intense and extensive examination of the right-wing’s rise to power is perhaps the best explanation to date of the roots of the political divide that threatens to irrevocably alter American government.”

It is with great remorse that Community Renewal Society offers its prayers and thoughts for the victims, families, and friends who are suffering the great tragedy that occurred in Las Vegas on Sunday evening. In the wake of similar tragedies in Orlando, San Bernardino, Charleston, and Newton, no community in our nation should have the burden of bearing “another mass shooting.” We condemn and abhor this act of violence.

Reporter Jonah Newman appeared on MSNBC’s PoliticsNation with Rev. Al Sharpton to discuss our online tool tracking Chicago’s progress on the Justice Department’s recommended police reforms.

It is with excitement that I share with you something new from the Policy department here at CRS: the Justifying Justice newsletter! We seek to exchange information and updates about the justice work CRS is most connected to, as well as begin conversations about how justice connects to faith.

Tears We Cannot Stop: A Sermon to White America by Michael Eric Dyson

Fundamental to Christianity, and perhaps humanity, is the notion that family is paramount. It is the cornerstone upon which society is built and is the example upon which the church most often analogizes itself. The very act of a government targeting families and the future of our country — our youth — is preposterous. The potential deportation of sons and daughters, in many cases brought to our country by parents escaping persecution in a foreign land, draws undeniable parallel to the baby Christ forced out of His country escaping the oppression of a brutal dictator named Herod.

Marge Frens

Sadly, we lost one of our leaders this month.  Margery B. Frens age 72 passed away August 23, 2017. Marge, a member of Elk Grove Presbyterian Church, was a woman of strong faith throughout her life.  She will be best remembered for her passion for Social Justice.  Her faith and light still shine in the work she did and in the hearts of so many of us. We are grateful for her tireless efforts among us at Community Renewal Society.
