Westside Community Benefits Coalition came together with residents, elected officials and other supporters to demand that both the new Gateway Development Project and Cook County Hospital Redevelopment provide good jobs and housing through a Community Benefits Agreement (CBA) that will keep developers accountable.
All four Westside Alderman – Alderman Burnett (27th Ward), Alderman Ervin (28th Ward), Alderman Mitts (37th Ward), and Alderman Scott (37th Ward) said YES to refusing to give Gateway Development Partners any tax breaks or public funding, including TIF dollars unless they first agree to meet and negotiate in GOOD FAITH to sign a CBA with the Westside Community Benefits Coalition!
The Westside Community Benefits Coalition is working to make sure that the Gateway Development Project and the Cook County Stroger Hospital redevelopment provide good jobs and housing through a Community Benefits Agreement that will keep developers accountable. A Community Benefits Agreement is a legally enforceable contract between developers and community groups, guaranteeing that these benefits for the community are delivered. These developers are coming into our community seeking the use of public land, public subsidies from our tax dollars, including TIF funds, but they are not willing to be accountable to us. The Westside Community Benefits Coalition held a public meeting on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at First Baptist Congregational Church to demand that our elected officials fight for good jobs and housing for Westside residents. The Westside Community Benefits Coalition is calling for a Community Benefits Agreement with the developers of the Gateway Development Project and Cook County Hospital Redevelopment in the Illinois Medical District.
