Year-End Update

Thursday, December 22, 2011

As the end of the year approaches, Community Renewal Society (CRS) gives thanks for all that we have accomplished with your support, and looks forward to the opportunities that await us in the new year!  We are writing now to give you a year-end update on our strategic planning process.

When Rev. Calvin S. Morris, Ph.D., announced that he would retire as of June 30, 2012, the CRS Board of Directors launched a strategic planning process.  The Board engaged a range of audiences -- staff, thought leaders and most importantly, our congregations -- in a discussion about the future direction of the organization and how to provide a strong foundation for its new leadership.

Recently, Rev. Morris began his transition to retirement with a six-month sabbatical.  During that time, he will remain committed to the organization, assisting with transitional relationships, organizing actions and making preparations for our upcoming 130th anniversary luncheon.  At the Spring 2012 luncheon, we will honor Rev. Morris for his commitment to racial and economic justice.

As we move in this new direction, we are pleased to welcome Pat O’Connell as the Transitional Managing Director. Pat is a 30-year, non-profit management veteran with expertise in transitional leadership. She will oversee the daily operations, facilitate cultural change and provide appropriate supports for new leadership at CRS as we begin our national Executive Director search process with Campbell & Company.

Also, in preparation for the new leadership, the Board has streamlined the CRS Leadership Team, by merging the responsibilities of the Chief Operating Officer and the next Executive Director.  In light of this transition, we thank Alysia Tate, who has faithfully served CRS for 13 years, first as Editor and Publisher of The Chicago Reporter, and most recently as Chief Operating Officer.

While we have a lot of work ahead of us, we are proud of the progress that we have made over the past calendar year to strengthen our organization.

Thank you for your continued support and interest in CRS.  If you have any questions please contact Pat O’Connell at 312.427.4830.

Happy Holidays and a healthy New Year!
