A big vote will take place this week on legalizing medical marijuana in Illinois, for those with chronic pain caused by a fairly short list of very serious diseases.
People on both sides expect the vote to be close. Is it smart public policy, or a dangerous step to enable drug abuse?
Advocate Eric Berlin joined FOX Chicago Sunday to share his opinion on the issue, stating it will ease the pain of those suffering from severe illnesses. He suffers from crone’s disease.
The president of the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police is waging a fierce fight against it. He says the state has no money to pay for the controls that would be needed, starting with the ID cards that patients would receive.
Opponents also say the plan could be dangerous, and open the door to fraud.
