Faith & Health Care

Much has been made of the revelation that Osama bin Laden remained committed to murdering massive numbers of Americans...But next to nothing has been made of the fact that a large group of American politicians remain committed to ending the lives of thousands--and, over time, millions--of their fellow Americans.

Advocate Eric Berlin joined FOX Chicago Sunday to share his opinion on the issue, stating it will ease the pain of those suffering from severe illnesses. He suffers from crone's disease.

The legislation (SB 1381) that would made Illinois the 16th state to legalize medical marijuana was called for a vote on January 7 and fell just two votes short of passage.

SB 1381, if approved this week by the House would make Illinois the 16th state to legalize medical marijuana. PCG supports this bill as an act of mercy and compassion on behalf of individuals suffering from chronic or acute pain who can be helped on no other way.

Some of the patients supporting the legalization of medical marijuana were weeping openly in the hallways of the Capitol yesterday when the SB 1381 did not pass the Illinois House. Our hope for victory was high.

In the next two or three weeks, Illinois could become the fifteenth state to pass legislation permitting the use of marijuana for medical purposes. We are hoping that SB 1381 will be approved in the veto session of the Illinois General Assembly which begins on November 16th.

While discoursing, during his final week in Jerusalem, on the fate of the temple, Jesus tells his disciples that not only will it be laid to ruins (“not one stone will be left upon another; all will be thrown down” Luke 21: 6), but also that some of them – the disciples, that is – will be put to death by “relatives and friends” (21: 16).

This will happen before the final and conclusive reign of God, according to Jesus.

From the sounds of those who campaigned in the recent congressional elections against the health care bill passed in March, one could get the impression that dismantling that reform legislation, virtually provision by provision, would be the critical piece of evidence for the forthcoming ushering in of God’s Kingdom.

A commentary by Al Sharp from the June 2nd issue of the Daily Herald

Two years ago, if you had asked whether legalizing medical marijuana was high on my priority list for PCG, I would have smiled politely and said “no.”

Health care in America is finally a right, not a privilege, because enough of us understand: We are in this together.
