A Father’s Day Devotional

Throughout scripture, Fathers and Father Figures are used to teach us about love, responsibility, sacrifice, and belonging. On Father’s Day, Community Renewal Society honors those who embody these values and help build a better world for the generations that follow.

“Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.”

Protector. Provider. Merciful. Honest. Inclusive.

A God who makes room for every child.

“Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”

A kingdom where dignity is not earned,
living your truth doesn't fear punishment,
poverty is not inherited,
and no child’s worth is measured
by race, sex, gender, religion, nationality, or circumstance.

“Give us this day our daily bread.”

For the child walking to school while a parent prays they make it home safely.

For the child crossing borders seeking refuge.

For the child worshipping differently than those around them.

For the child speaking a language their classmates do not understand.

For the child learning that some people see difference before dignity,
and wonder whether this world was built with them in mind.

“And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.”

Forgive us when we have mistaken silence for peace

or turned a blind eye to injustice because it asked less of us.

Teach us how to forgive what feels unforgivable,

when grief is all-consuming,

when fear is still present,

when the wound has not yet healed,

“And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”

From apathy when suffering feels endless.
From the lie that violence, poverty, racism, and war
are simply the way things are.

“For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever.”

Amen.
