“Do not let them change the part of your soul

that sees a fellow human being

when you look at your neighbor.”

— Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson

We are witnesses to another loss imposed by the hateful actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Minnesota.

We remember George Floyd and amplify accountability. We remember Silverio Villegas González and demand dignity.

We now must remember Renee Nicole Good, Alex Pretti, and Keith Porter Jr., and call for justice.

We will not be desensitized to a cycle of conflict. We choose to affirm the sanctity of life amid false narratives, tragedy, and trauma. We unapologetically uplift love for all.

As vigils continue in the city of Minneapolis and protests pop up across the greater Chicago area, Community Renewal Society (CRS) is in solidarity with those impacted by the fatal shooting on January 7.

CRS condemns the irreversible harm that ICE agents and police violence cause in our Beloved Community.

We mourn the 37-year-old mother and invite you to join us in creating a safer, more equitable culture by sharing these resources, from mental health support to legal defense aid, with organizers and others advocating for humanity and healing.

May you find comfort in scripture, knowing that Jesus says, “No more of this!” (Luke 22:51).

With Love and Lament,

The staff of Community Renewal Society
